This is the LilioNarcissus africanus, scilae foliis, flore niveo linea
purpurea striato cited under Amaryllis zeylanica in Species
Plantarum.
Philip Miller reported that this plant had cultural requirements similar to
the West Indies Red Lily, and was more common in Holland than in England.
He also stated that he had received seeds and bulbs of this plant from the
West Indies, which suggests that he was growing Crinum scabrum.
The name "Belladonna" was used for several species of Amaryllis and Crinum,
as listed by Linnaeus.
George Ehret's other "Belladonna lily" was published by Jakob Trew in Plantae
Selectae around 1750.
