Josephus Marianus e Conceptione Vellozo
126. AMARYLLIS
Vellozo was Portuguese, though he lived in Brazil for some years. Like Ruiz and Pavon, the Spanish explorers of Peru and Chile, Vellozo was not influenced by the errors regarding Amaryllis Belladonna that spread from England through the efforts of George Ehret, John Miller, William Curtis, et al. And William Herbert had not yet invented the proposterous fiction that an orange-flowered plant could not be called Bella Donna.
