There is some confusion and misrepresentation in the above listings. For instance, John Parkinson had both the Atamasco and Jacobeus before 1629, but is not given credit. Philip Miller was growing Orientalis by 1759.
There is also some problem with Equestris, which Linn. fil. restricted to the type with a horizontal filiform tube as illustrated by Merian. Here the synonyms suggest a broader view of the species, including Hill's A. biflora and Linnaeus's A. Belladonna. Herbert later claimed that the description was wrong because it didn't describe the forms he wanted to include in A. equestris.
Linn. fil. cited Seligmann's West Indische rothe Lilie as an illustration for Amaryllis reginae, though that plant was identified by Ehret as the one described by Linnaeus in Hort. Cliff., which later (1753) became Amaryllis Belldonna L.
Linn. fil. did not refer the species Belladonna or reginae to Species Plantarum or any other of his father's works.
It is amusing to note that while Linn. fil. cited Hill's Hort. Kew. of 1768, the 1789 Hort. Kew. avoids mention of Hill as much as possible.
