The new cover of Total Film magazine features the team between Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman’s superheroes Thor: Love and Thunder.

The new cover for Total movie magazine brings together the superheroes of Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman from Thor: Love and Thunder. Taika Waititi directs the next sequel to Thor: Ragnarok (2017), which sees the return of the former Asgardian king of Hemsworth after the events of Avengers: Endgame (2019). In the new film, Thor goes through a midlife crisis and searches for the purpose of his existence and his heroism. But his pursuit of inner peace is interrupted by a galactic terminator, Gorr the Butcher God (Christian Bale), who is determined to wipe out all gods. Thor: Love and Thunder will see Hemsworth’s superhero team up with Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Waititi) and Jane Foster (Portman) – who has now become Mighty Thor – and the Guardians of the Galaxy as they unite to defeat Gorr .

VIDEO OF THE DAY

Presented as a romance film as much as a superhero film, Thor: Love and Thunder marks Portman’s MCU return after Thor: The Dark World (2013). In the new film, Portman’s Jane, who is an astrophysicist, will cross paths with her ex-boyfriend Thor after eight years. Thor: Love and Thunder will explain the backstory of Thor and Jane’s breakup while depicting the nature of their romance in flashbacks. Waititi has previously said Jane’s reappearance would be a big adjustment for Thor, and with the two heroes sharing similar costumes, powers, and weapons (Jane now wields a rebuilt Mjolnir), there will initially be some competition between them. While it’s unclear how Thor and Jane’s relationship will develop through the film, it’s been established that they’ll be a fierce team when they join forces.

Now the mighty team between Hemsworth’s Thor and Portman’s Mighty Thor has been featured on the cover of the Total movie magazine. The new image offers a clear look at the superheroes in their enhanced costumes, muscular physiques and fearsome weapons as they stand back to back. An alternate cover for the magazine shows Thor and Jane’s iconic helmets, which are a true take on the comics. Take a look at the covers below.

At this time, Jane’s future within the shared universe is unclear. Thor could appear elsewhere in the franchise, although Hemsworth recently suggested Thor: Love and Thunder could be his last Marvel movie. Given that, the new movie will surely have a lot to unpack in its limited runtime of one hour and 59 minutes. Waititi says it’s no guarantee that Jane, who is undergoing cancer treatment, will rekindle her romance with Thor. But given the emotional reunion and powerful team between the protagonists, it’s likely that Jane will help Thor reach a much-needed conclusion, helping him through his confused state as he gains a new purpose.

In the absence of current plans to Thor 5Waititi seems to be focused on crafting the arcs of all the main characters in Thor: Love and Thunder. With that in mind, Jane and Thor will likely be seen at their best in the new film, with their powers on full display as they do battle against Marvel’s best-received villain to date. The new magazine cover is definitely a cool promotional gig for the upcoming film, as it not only teases a superhero bond of epic proportions, but also highlights some complicated chemistry waiting to unfold.
