“As Senior Control Operator, my job is to provide the highest quality control of programming for Discovery Communications across a total of 77 streams that air in 49 countries and territories. I do this by monitoring the continuity on-air content, verifying that all programming planning is accurate, monitoring accuracy of closed captions, subtitles and V-chip information, monitoring streams for correct distribution language on audio tracks and managing a variety of other technical functions.”

David Matias also talked about some of the difficult parts of his job.

“The hardest part of my job is keeping up with ever-changing technology. There’s always something new to learn and it can be hard to stay one step ahead. But I like a challenge and I’m always up for learning something new.

Mr. Matias talked about his favorite aspects of working in the TV industry and offered advice for those who might be interested in pursuing a career in the broadcast operations industry.

“My advice would be to get as much experience as possible. Internships, volunteer opportunities and entry-level jobs are a great way to learn about the industry and gain valuable experience. I would also advise networking as much as possible and building relationships with people in the industry. And finally, don’t be afraid to take risks. Pursuing a career in television can be very rewarding, but it’s not always easy. You have to be willing to work hard and face challenges head on. But if you’re passionate about it, it’s worth it.
