A home designed and built by PLATT, a Brevard-based architecture, construction and interior design firm, is featured in the July / August issue of VERANDA, a home-focused lifestyle magazine. Published by Hearst Communications, one of the nation’s largest media companies, VERANDA has an average circulation of nearly 500,000 copies and a readership of over 2.4 million.

“It is an honor to be featured in a national publication read by millions of people,” said Curtis M. Greenwood, Commercial Director at PLATT. “VERANDA not only showcased our work, but also this beautiful place we call home. It is gratifying to see the national spotlight shining on Transylvania County and western North Carolina.”

The report, titled “Peace of Resistance”, features a modernist private residence distinguished by its flat green roof planted with native grasses and wildflowers, located on the shores of Toxaway Lake. The house, which includes a boathouse and a guesthouse, was completed in 2017.

PLATT collaborated with Los Angeles-based interior designer Cliff Fong and local landscape architect Rob Westmore.

“We are delighted to finally share this project, a labor of love that began in 2015,” said Parker Platt, who designed the house with his father, company founder Al Platt. “It has been a long drive, but the wait was well worth it. We are currently building a second guesthouse on the property, with four bedrooms and an infinity pool which will further enhance the entire estate.”

The VERANDA article was written by Stephen Wallis, with images by renowned photographer William Abranowicz, whose work can be found in collections around the world including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Portrait Gallery in London, the National Library de Paris and the Smithsonian Institute.

PLATT is a full-service Brevard-based architecture, construction and interior design firm serving clients in the Southern Appalachian Highlands and beyond.

Founded in 1982, the company is led by partners Alfred F. Platt Jr., AIA and Parker Platt, AIA, and supported by a team of over 30 professionals.

Specializing in custom homes and unique commercial structures, PLATT has successfully completed over 500 projects across the United States.
