Time magazine cover features an eerie mashup portrait of Trump Putin’s face

A photographic illustration mixing portraits of President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin is the latest cover image for Time magazine.

The July issue’s mashup resembles a Snapchat face swap: retaining the leaders’ light eyes, Trump’s signature blonde hair and eyebrows, and Putin’s nose. It is a striking cover that comments on the controversy around Trump and Putin’s recent summit in Helsinki, Finland.

“A year and a half into his presidency, Trump’s puzzling affinity for Putin has yet to be explained,” writes Brian Bennett in the Coverage of time.

The image, created by artist Nancy Burson, is meant to illustrate a “particular moment in American foreign policy”. The weather said in a press release.

This moment is conducive to confusion over Trump’s relationship with Russia. During his meeting with Putin, Trump did not confront the Russian leader about Moscow’s interference in the 2016 presidential election. Trump also did conflicting statements recently to find out if he believes there are ongoing Russian threats against the US election – even backtrack on a statement he did when he appeared with Putin in Helsinki. When Trump said he saw no reason why Russia “would” have been involved in the US presidential election, what he meant was “wouldn’t.”

Trump and his aides still appear to be dealing the damage in the face of criticism from Republican and Democratic lawmakers appalled by the president’s friendly behavior toward Putin.

The magazine also shared a video showing Trump transforming into Putin.
