Rashford appears on cover of Vogue alongside mental health activist and model Adwoa Aboah

Footballer Marcus Rashford is a star in the latest issue of the famous British magazine Vogue.

The September edition of the magazine, coming out Friday, August 7, is a special edition on activism and highlights the achievements and campaigns of black people and those forcing change.

Rashford shared a cover photo on Twitter and said he was “humbled” to be recognized for his campaign for vulnerable children, which led to the government changing its mind to provide free school meals during summer vacation.

“I’m by no means a politician, but I had a voice and a platform that could be used to at least ask the questions,” Rashford said.

“If I hadn’t put myself forward and said ‘This is not OK and this has to change’, I would have failed with my 10 year old self.”

Rashford appears on the cover alongside mental health activist and model Adwoa Aboah.

The photo was taken by photographer Misan Harriman, the first black man to photograph a British Vogue cover in the magazine’s 104-year history.

The September 2020 issue of Vogue features several people who have tried to make changes in society

In addition to Rashford and Aboah, the magazine offers a fold-out page showing black activists, writers, activists and those who fought for civil rights.

They include Radio 1 DJ Clara Amfo, Patrisse Cullors, co-founder of Black Lives Matter, Doreen Lawrence, mother of Stephen Lawrence, a black teenager who was killed, and Justice4Grenfell activist Yvette Williams.

The September issue of Vogue is usually the biggest of the year, and all of the magazine’s versions around the world are devoted to the theme of “hope.”

Edward Enninful, who is the editor-in-chief of British Vogue, said: “At its core, the September issue of British Vogue is our token of thanks, as well as a rallying cry for the future.

“In the end, it’s clear that 2020 will be remembered as a difficult year, but also as a time of needed change. One thing is certain. The future begins now.”
